Patricia's Life History Spanning Over 80 Years
Created by Gareth 8 years ago
Patricia (Pat) was born in
Aylesbury on March 24, 1935. She lived a full & interesting life, seeing a
lot of world from an early age. Patricia grew up with her Brother & Mother
on various Airbases in Egypt, South Africa whilst her Father an Officer on active Service in the
RAF, oversaw essential Aircraft Maintenance, who himself was mentioned in Dispatches. Near the end of WWII Patricia returned back to
live on a Farm in South Wales where she learnt to speak fluent welsh. She loved
Art, particularly enjoyed drawing portraits of famous people.
As a young adult she started out by working in an
Accountants, her heart wasn’t really in it & later went on to manage a Newsagent,
however her passion laid more in fashion & beauty where she studied at
various Beauty Schools & later went on to work for several happy years as a
Beautician in a Chemist called Parker's in South Harrow.
Whilst managing the Newsagents, she met her
husband Ronald James Berry (Ron) Master Builder /Building Contractor, who she married
in 1967. They lived together firstly in Stanmore & then moved to South
Harrow where they were joined by their Son Gareth who was born in 1973.
Patricia then decided to become a full time Mum supporting both her Son & Husband
who later became Semi-Retired due to poor health.
Around 1986 Patricia was
diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease, which then began a long, hard & brave battle
fought for nearly 30 years. Patricia underwent two major pioneering Brain Surgeries
at the Royal Neurological Hospital in Holborn. She sadly lost her husband who passed away in 1997, leaving her Son to live & help care for her along with the support from Carers/Home Helps. She later became too ill to live safely at home & a difficult decision had to be made for her to move into Residential Care at Mayfield in Kenton at the end of 2009. Despite her condition, she remained positive &
upbeat always looking on the bright side of life throughout, determined to keep
as much of her independence as possible right up until the end. She was an
amazing woman & true inspiration to anyone who knew her.
